I read about my school’s hospitality program and it honestly seems like it grooms you to get into tourism and being a tour guide.
I’d like to get into management, preferably in a nightclub setting or perhaps a casino department (i.e. Atlantic City or Las Vegas).
I heard a friend of mine say he was going to pursue an opening at a casino for general manager of a new nightclub but he says he doesn’t have the edge most people would because he didn’t major in hospitality when he graduated college.
Which of those two majors would be more geared at a position like that?
Do to a weird copy and paste error, the second part of the question “at would you like to ask?” was added by accident but is not supposed to be up there.

business, a hospitality/recreation degree is for resorts and those type of places, besides if you want to manage a club or any other business a business degree will take you farther and you will be taken more seriously.
edit: yea there should be an “edit” box for that part of yahoo answers.

I’d major in business with a minor in hospitality. Or take some electives in hospitality that would fit with the nightclub and casino idea. The skills you need, or more importantly the skills your prospective employers think you will need may not be taught in the hospitality major. You have what you want to do nailed down so why not call and see what some of those employers are looking for. It may also get you some connections for the future.
